Dr Sonika Burger – B.Ch.D (University of Stellenbosch) D.P.D.S (University of Bristol)
Cosmetic dentist and practice owner
Sonika graduated from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa in 1999. Her dental career
started in England and she owned a successful Private and NHS dental practice in Berkshire and lived there for 10 years before moving to Somerset in 2012 with her husband Ulrich and their 2 small boys. Sonika really enjoys dentistry and being able to help patients towards good dental health and the best aesthetic outcome possible. Sonika’s postgraduate achievements include a Diploma in Sedation, Oral Surgery and Paediatric Dentistry from the University of Bristol in 2005. She has also completed a year course in Advanced Restorative Dentistry with well-known restorative dentist, Dr Chris Orr to further improve her skills and knowledge of complex aesthetic treatments. She also enjoys doing adult aesthetic orthodontic treatment to help create beautiful smiles alongside complimenting restorative treatments.
Apart from dentistry she has also developed a love for Facial Aesthetic treatments. Sonika obtained advanced qualifications in the provision of dermal fillers and wrinkle relaxing treatments in 2009 and she keeps herself up to date with all the new developments in the facial aesthetic and cosmetic dental world through regular ongoing training.
In her spare time she enjoys cooking, playing golf and spending time with her husband and 2 boys.
Ulrich Nieuwenhuis – National Higher Diploma in Dental Technology (Johannesburg, Technical College Witwatersrand)
Ceramist and Owner of Creative Ceramic Art Limited
Ulrich qualified in 1994 from the Technicon Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He moved to the UK in 1998 and worked in Surrey. His passion for aesthetic dentistry and creating beautiful smiles everyday has driven him to start his own aesthetic dental laboratory called Creative Ceramic Art Limited in 2003.
Ulrich keeps himself up to date with the latest developments in aesthetic and digital dentistry by attending training in Lichtenstein, Germany and the UK regularly. His laboratory became one of the first SIRONA InLab laboratories in the UK and has recently become an InLab trainer for SIRONA in the UK. Creative Ceramic Art Ltd is also a Twiny certified laboratory. Ulrich enjoys working closely with colleagues, dentists and patients to form a very important part of the dental team.
We are lucky to have Ulrich as part of our practice to help us deliver a very high quality service alongside his wife, Dr. Sonika Burger and help create beautiful smiles every day for all our patients. Ulrich’s hobbies include playing touch rugby, cricket in the summer and spending time with his family.
Lowri Wall – BChD. GDC no. 244526
Lowri graduated from the University of Leeds in 2013. Following this, she completed a year of further training within the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department at Hull Royal Infirmary. Lowri worked in general practice in Yorkshire for several years before moving to Bristol in 2017, to be nearer to family in South Wales.
Lowri enjoys all aspects of general dentistry and aims to provide quality dentistry for her patients using a conservative approach. Lowri is able to provide tooth whitening treatments and simple adult orthodontics with clear aligners, to enhance patient’s smiles. She is also pleased to offer anti-wrinkle treatments.
Lowri keeps up to date with the latest developments in dentistry by regularly attending courses to advance her clinical skills and ensure her continued professional development.
Outside of work, Lowri enjoys spending time with friends, skiing, swimming and day trips exploring the south west.
Dr Luke Mirza – B.D.S – Dentist
Luke graduated from Bristol University with merit in 2010. He started his career working in practice in Bristol before moving with his wife to Sevenoaks in Kent.
Luke soon realised that private practice was for him and his career ambitions. He has a passion for minimally invasive and conservative dentistry. During his time in Kent he developed a wealth of experience with same day CADCAM restorations and short term orthodontic treatment. Luke is an experienced provider of Invisalign, CFast and SmileTRU orthodontic systems.
His experience with orthodontics and CADCAM dentistry facilitate his ability to drastically change peoples smiles, whilst maintaining a conservative approach.
Luke moved back to the South West with his wife after several years in Kent, where they have settled in Bristol. He is a keen sports fan enjoying most sports, but a keen football fan and avid golfer.
Nick More – Dentist – GDC 77778
Nick qualified as a Dentist from the University of Sheffield Dental School in June 2000 and went straight into general practice training up in Manchester.
Nick keeps fully up to date with the latest treatments, procedures and materials via continued professional development (regulated by the General Dental Council). Nick aims to deliver quality dental care for all the family but also enjoys cosmetic dentistry from teeth whitening to cosmetic veneers & crowns as well as white fillings and bridgework for that winning smile.
Nick completed the Invisalign Training Course in July 2014 which now allows patients to have their teeth straightened with clear plastic aligners as an alternative to traditional ‘train track’ braces.
Nick is married to his wife Rachel, follows Man Utd and is an ex-international lacrosse player. He also has a Staffy named Daisy.
Ultimately, Nick believes that everyone deserves to be treated individually with respect and dignity and most of all understanding. Using this philosophy and the most up- to- date materials and techniques, fantastic results can be achieved whether it’s the most simple of fillings or complex bridgework. As a result, a high percentage of our business is from repeat customers and word of mouth referrals.
Dr Dan Beevers BDS (Bristol) – Implantology
Dan Beevers BDS MSc (Implantology)
We welcome Dan Beevers to Church House Dental Clinic, he works with us on Fridays.
Dan moved from the South Coast of Dorset to Bristol in 1999 to study dentistry where he qualified in 2004. On completion of this vocational dental training in Gloucestershire he concentrated his career in the field of oral surgery.
In tandem with his private practice career Dan spent 13 years in the role of Clinical lecturer in Oral Surgery at the University of Bristol Dental School. In this role he taught both undergraduate and postgraduate dental students and took referral for complex oral surgery procedures.
Dan undertook a four-year MSc programme in Dental implantology in 2009 achieving a distinction grade for his studies and research. He now concentrates his practice in the field of restorative dentistry and implantology. Dan is a member of the International team of implantology and is an actively engaged with their postgraduate training including a mentoring scheme for dentists wishing to gain experience in implant dentistry.
Madeline Bagg – Hygienist
Madeline Bagg – Hygienist – Diploma in Dental Hygiene, University of Bristol
Madeline qualified as a hygienist from the University of Bristol in June 2020. Prior to this Madeline worked as a dental nurse. During her time both as a nurse and hygienist, Madeline has gained experience in a variety of dental settings such as endodontics, implantology, special care patients and working alongside specialist periodontists.
Madeline is passionate about helping her patients with a practical and positive approach tailoring oral hygiene advice for the individual. She has an emphasis on education helping her patients understand the aetiology of the Periodontal disease whilst explaining links to systemic health.
Madeline has a gentle and caring manner helping nervous patients to overcome dental fears and making them feel as comfortable as possible.
In her spare time Madeline enjoys creating portraiture pen drawings and living an active outdoor lifestyle with her family
Karen Louise Bowden – Hygienist – BSc Dental Hygiene and Therapy – GDC – 152172
Karen has been in the dental profession for the last 17 years. She started her career as a dental nurse and receptionist before training to be a Dental Hygienist and Therapist. She graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2008. She has a great deal of experience in her full remit and has worked in both NHS and private practice and with a specialist periodontist.
Karen is passionate about her job and takes immense pride in her work, committed at all times to providing caring and excellent treatment to her patients.
She enjoys undertaking regular continuing professional development and is always keen to learn new techniques.
She loves building a strong rapport with her patients and getting to know them and helping them to improve their oral health.
She has a kind and friendly approach and especially enjoys treating nervous patients, and helping them to overcome their anxieties; always trying to make treatment as comfortable as possible.
In 2017 Karen starting working at the Peninsula Dental School as a clinical supervisor for the Year 3 Dental Students in the paediatric clinic.
When she is not busy in the dental surgery Karen enjoys spending time with her friends and family, usually entertaining for them as she is a keen cook! She lives with her husband Marty and their mischievous cat Katy.
She also enjoys walking, going to gigs, Pilates and sightseeing.
Melanie Rolinson – Hygienist
I am a British registered Dental Hygienist. My qualification was gained at The University of Bristol, one of the top five training facilities in the United Kingdom.
My career to date has included working as a dental nurse for thirteen years within NHS,private and community settings and managing one of the training facility clinics within The Peninsula Dental School.
Working within the dental profession for so many years has given me insight into the holistic benefits of good oral health. I have also acquired excellent communication skills which enable me to communicate and educate patients from varying backgrounds with individual oral health needs.
I am very organised in my approach to work and I treat each patient according to their oral health needs and expectations. I am very much a people person and I find my role as a dental hygienist very rewarding.
Lucy Clarke – Receptionist
We welcomed Lucy to the practice in January 2017 as our receptionist. She relocated to Taunton from Barnstaple where she had been the head receptionist in a dental practice for just over 8 years.
Lucy enjoys running, road biking and spending time with her son Charlie. She ran in the London Marathon 2016.
Laura Brown – Dental Nurse/Receptionist
Laura is our Dental Nurse and part time Receptionist, Laura has 7 years experience and works full time Monday to Friday. Laura enjoys spin classes and long walks with her 3 dogs.
Annie – Dental Nurse
We welcomed Annie to the practice in April 2019.
Annie is a fully qualified dental nurse, with 10 years experience. Annie works Monday-Wednesday with Luke and Thursdays with Holley our Hygienist.
In her spare time Annie enjoys caring for her 11 sheep, 2 ponies and 2 dogs.
She also enjoys a coastal walk, with a little pub stop along the way.
Sue Simpson – Dental Nurse/Receptionist
Sue began working in the dental field in 1979 and has experience in General practice, Endodontic Nursing, Dental Implant nursing, Management, Impression taking and teaching (PTTLS).
Sue gained the National Certificate in 2005 and her Certificate in Dental Implant Nursing from King’s College, London in 2012. Her passion for teaching earned her a level 3 award in Education and Training PTLLS.
Sue is an Accredited Course Provider with the NEBDN and currently teaches The National Diploma in Dental Nursing and Certificate in Dental Implant Nursing.
In her spare time, Sue enjoys outdoor activities with her family, cooking and genealogy.
